In this work one sets out to analyze the Hispano-American test in two constituent stages of his generic statute. "Prefacio" of El fragmento preliminar al estudio del Derecho of Juan Bautista Alberdi is considered. like one of the first slopes of configuration of the sort. In effect, Alberdi makes some metapoetics considerations in this text, that allow to give to account of the passage made by the term essay, as far as the meaning that had assigned and the way to him as it conditioned a communicative necessity. With regard to Juan Montalvo, its work Siete Tratados can say that it represents the stage of an increase of the aesthetic conscience of the sort. The Ecuadorian writer has taken as reference the work from Montaigne, in agreement with which the sort holds fast when counting on a generic model defined clearly. In general terms, it would be possible to be affirmed that the ensayístico sort in Hispano-American is from a communicative demand of the romanticism, although in two stages: in Alberdi, like search and in Montalvo, like defined generic conscience.
