IGLESIAS, Nélida  e  DEL RIO, H. Nora. Construcción de la imagen del adversario: Marco Antonio en las Filípicas de Cicerón. Cuad.Sur, Let. [online]. 2003, n.32-33, pp. 305-323. ISSN 2362-2970.

The purpose of this work is to identify -through the reading of Cicero's first four Philippicae- the steps by which the orator creates a negative image of M. Antonius. Although at the beginning of the first Philippica the orator finds some positive qualities and deeds in M. Antonius, as he progresses in his further expositions, we observe that he degrades this image until making a growing sustained attack loaded with verbal aggression, which leads to the depreciation of Antonius's figure. This paper analyses the wide spectrum of the linguistic resources used by Cicero in order the construct M. Antonius's image. The theoretical framework within which this analysis is carried out corresponds to J.R. Martin's (1997) -a representative of the systemic functional linguistics- proposal on evaluative language.
