This article proposes a historical review of Argentinian poetry, between 1940 and 1990. It discusses, first, the several images that poets have constructed of themselves, namely, of their possible social function and of the significance of their aesthetic practice. It considers, then, the ways those images have conditioned the actual writing of their poems.
