IBARRA, Mayra. Hernán Cortés y la Malinche: unidos por una herida: Aproximaciones al análisis del discurso histórico e ideológico acerca de la identidad cultural mexicana en la década de 1950. Cuad.Sur, Let. [online]. 2007, n.37, pp. 87-118. ISSN 1668-7426.

A journey into the History of the 16th Century through the 19th Century in Colonial Mexico that allows a semantic revision of two key literary figures, that of Hernán Cortés and Malinche. The aim of this paper is to determine how these figures became emblematic to the point of becoming the founding couple of the national identity in the fifties, an idea supported by Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes, since they both based their work in an ontology of the Mexican culture. The present work is about deconstructing this ontology and proposing new interpretations -through the comparison of texts- of the ideological aspects that led to the inferiority complex, the self-hatred complex known as malinchismo and the genealogy of the hijos de la chingada as those distinctive features of the Mexican character. In order to achieve this, a body of texts was selected, including many different approaches and points of view, which vary depending on the author's ethnicity and socio-political background. Another fact that was contemplated was the public's response to these texts, not only in their own time but historically. Among these authors are Bernal Díaz del Castillo, Antonio Solís, Francisco Xavier Clavijero, José Ignacio Ramírez and José Peón Contreras.
