Abstract

QUEREILHAC, Soledad. Cientificismo, ocultismo y mística estética en la narrativa fantástica de entre siglos: El olvidado caso de Atilio Chiáppori. Cuad.Sur, Let. [online]. 2007, n.37, pp. 223-248. ISSN 1668-7426.

This dissertation examines the development of fantastic literature in the Río de la Plata of beginnings of twentieth century, with emphasis on those short stories which topics and forms were related with discourses and practices of positive sciences and of occult sciences. The forgotten literature of the Argentinean writer Atilio Chiáppori represents one of the most interesting moments on the development of this type of fantastic narrative, due to his work with the "borderlands" of science and occultism and to his secular representation of the ideas of "mystery" and the "supernatural". The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze Chiáppori's short stories attending to what they inform about the strong but still unstable presence of sciences in the social imaginary.

Keywords : Chiáppori; Fantastic literature; Occultism.
