Among the corpus of literary works in the 14^th century in Spain, and with an increasing opening to multipicity os senses, Libro de Buen Amor, written by Juan Ruiz, Archpreste of Hita, presents a rich treatment of animals images. Birds, in that set, are frequent and central in some episodes of the book: Capital Sins, as introduction, and the episodes of Doña Endrina and Doña Garoça. The author gets from tradition, beast books and other sources, some senses given to different birds but, according to the connotations suggested in his voice, manages these symbols to its own freedom and creativity. In the main episodes of Doña Endrina and Doña Garoça, a constant assimilation between femenin characters and different birds is introduced. The lattest stand for human bahaviours upon a strategy addresed to an also femenin audience. The discoursive mode that predominates the most is that of the fable, secondly analogies, sentences and ordinary mentions take place. Besides, ambiguity and sarcasm seem to be within the author's look. The selected episodes offer a second reading, under the light of concepts such that of popular culture described by Bajtin; Bremond, Le Goff and Schmitt relate this approache to stories with animals.
