FINKIELSZTOYN, Micaela. Perdido como turco en la neblina: un acercamiento sociológico-lingüístico al proceso de integración de Turquía a la Unión Europea. Cuad.Sur, Let. [online]. 2010, n.40, pp. 75-88. ISSN 1668-7426.

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the ideological and political constructions that underlie the cur- rent language policy of the European Union, so as to sketch its sociolinguis- tic profile and the role that language policies fulfill within the wider process of admission of new Member States to this supranational organization. In order to accomplish this, we shall take as a case study the situation of the Turkish language in the European Union of the 21st century, which was confined to oblivion by the EU, denying the fact that it is actually spoken by its citizens, regarding it only as an immigration language. Such sociolinguistic procedure is carried out in the framework of a wider process of rejection: the denial to the entry of Turkey to the European Union. This problematique will be dealt from the standpoint of sociopolitical and discourse analysis of a body of texts, whch include official documents issued both by European Institutions and by Member States, such as Germany, where Turkish population has increased considerably during the last 20 years. Finally, we will also resort to glotopolitics as a theorical background, i.e. the discipline which studies the different ways in which a society can act upon language (Del Valle, 2007).
