Abstract

LEPORI, Roberto. Borges contra la democracia: Una relectura paranoica de la "La lotería en babilonia". Cuad.Sur, Let. [online]. 2010, n.40, pp. 115-134. ISSN 1668-7426.

The story "La lotería en Babilonia" [1941] turns the draw -traditionally a democratic mechanism of organization- into an instrument of despotism by means of a negative figuration of chance. This could be considered an indication of the conservative turn by Jorge Luis Borges from the forties. In this sense, criticism of the lottery allows for the reconstruction -around this story and through a perspective based on paranoia, conspiracy and science fiction- of a conservative genealogy of authors and texts.

Keywords : Draw; Democracy; Totalitarianism.
