The purpose of this paper is to show the difference between two separate, clearly differentiated, and mutually implied periods: modernism and post-modernism. Post-modernism is understood as the opportunity that made both the crisis and subsequent dissolution of the main categories of modernism possible. Such an occasion calls not only for a new evaluation of our place in the history of western thought but also, and foremost, for a reconsideration of history as such, which has always been thought of as the history of metaphysics or, in Heidegger's words, the history of the being's forgetfulness. In this respect, we draw on the work of a contemporary thinker like Vattimo in order to understand contemporary thought. To this effect, it is important to point out that Heidegger's concept of verwindung and Vattimo's counterpart, which certainly focuses on a different aspect, had to be exhaustively analyzed. Vattimo deals with the increasing complexity and intensification of mass-media in our post-modern society. Here we come to the topic discussed in this paper: What happens to "reality" in a computerized society like ours, mediated as it is by the fables of mass-media?
