Abstract

BIEDA, Esteban E.. "Las cosas del querer" apuntes sobre la voluntariedad y la responsabilidad en la ética de aristóteles. Cuad. Sur, Filos. [online]. 2007, n.36, pp. 105-135. ISSN 1668-7434.

In this article we intend to analize those passages where Aristotle elucidates the voluntary and involuntary regarding human actions in order to show when a person is to be punished and, in that case, how. We will try to see how Aristotle identifies some actions that in spite of being involuntary involve the agent's will; there are, also, certain actions that, in spite of being voluntary, have some characteristics that are beyond the possibilities of the agent. In order to do this, we will analize the taxonomy of actions as it appears in the third book of Nicomachean ethics. Apart from this, to comprehend all this kind of actions it will be necessary to distinguish between the "origin" (arché) of the action and the "responsible" (aítios) for it, since the origin from which actions take place does not necessarily determine the responsible for them.

Keywords : Ancient greek ethics; Will; Responsibility.
