Resumen

POGLIAGA, Diana. Civilización y Barbarie en la Argentina de hoy. Cuad. Sur, Filos. [online]. 2007, n.36, pp. 159-172. ISSN 1668-7434.

The contribution of this article, is to think the "civilization and barbarity" problematic, taking three paradigmatic authors in different historical moments of Argentina: Sarmiento, man from the 37th Generation, author of Facundo, Civilización y Barbarie written in 1845, in Chile, during his exile from Rosas government, Leopoldo Lugones considered the homeland poet, presenting his book El Payador before the argentine politics elite in 1913, and Carlos Astrada contemporary philosopher author of the book El Mito Gaucho in 1948. My proposal is to think over this topic under Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe theoretical frame, about the function of the "empty signifier" in politics, which assumes contingently the representative function from the universal. "Civilization and barbarity" as empty signifier from the subjectivity of the argentine politics construction, is represented on the argentine thinking as "unitary - federals" mid XIX century, "liberals - conservatives" between de XIX and XX century and "peronists - antiperonist" from 1945.

Palabras llave : Civilization; Barbarity; Empty signifier.
