Resumen

AGESTA, María de las Nieves  y  HEREDIA, Ana Carolina. La Modernización aún no visible: Caricaturas en Bahía Blanca entre 1909 y 1910. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2003, n.32, pp. 223-244. ISSN 1668-7604.

This work is intended to be a contribution from History of Art to the revalorization of the Interior as an essential scope for the construction of a history of national reach. The reconstruction of local histories questions the traditional exclusive and centralist vision. The research of the caricatures in "Proyecciones" magazine from Bahía Blanca, between 1909 and 1910, was the starting point for an incursion into the local perspective. Two parallel modernization processes are developed in this period. First, the social, economic, and political modernization. In second place, the artistic modernization, where the caricature starts to occupy a central role in publications."Proyecciones" places it on their covers, using it as an instrument of attraction for the reception. The material and symbolic struggles that are developed around the issue of power appear as a transversal axis that crosses every scope. In relation to this, we take two oppositions into account: between the local Executive and Legislative bodies, and between the Municipal and Provincial governments. The illustrations allow us to analyze the political constitution and development processes of the dominant class, and the functioning and oppositions in Bahia Blanca's journalistic field.
