Recent developments in the archaeological as well as historiographical fields of research on the history of ancient Palestine have led us to recognize the profound influence of the biblical account on modern interpretations of ancient Israel's past during the last two hundred years of biblical and historical scholarship. Such recognition allows us now to revise, from a critical point of view, virtually the whole of ancient Israel's history in the Ancient Near East and, most important, to be aware of the serious ideological and political consequences that dwell in both the traditional historiography's interpretations and the new perspectives of research.
