The passage from National Territory to Province in Neuquén between 1950 and 1956 will become a transitional juncture from which institutional and symbolic devices tending to create the foundations of a new assessment system will unfold. The need to place individuals on the basis of some key meanings will become evident. In other words, the eagerness to find institutional and ideological formulations which are both systematic and authoritative and provide sense and persuasive images in the new context will flourish. The need to build, re-signify or re-update an identity matrix together with the setting of a clearly selective tradition will arise. This will become, then, an emergency condition of a group of actors, whom we will call "the intellectual", and of institutions such as "Casa Neuqueniana" (Neuquenian House) used to be. This is part of a larger work aimed at speculating on the position of these producers and administrators of symbolic goods within the constellation of the social power. For that purpose, we intend to portray the scene of the intellectual life and highlight the diverse modalities that the relationship between them and the political power would assume.
