Resumen

LLULL, Laura. El diario La Nueva Provincia y el golpe de estado de 1966. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2004, n.33, pp. 131-148. ISSN 1668-7604.

The presidential elections of June 1963 were won by Arturo Illia, the Union Civica Radical del Pueblo candidate, in a context of restricted democracy since the Peronista Party had been banned from all political activity in 1955 by the military who overthrew President Juan Domingo Peron that same year. Three years later, in June 1966, the Armed forces intervened again (as they had also done in 1962 to overthrow President Arturo Frondizi) to put an end to the constitutional order, thus inaugurating a period characterized by a still harsher authoritarianism. This paper tries to examine how La Nueva Provincia -the only newspaper published in Bahia Blanca at that time - covered the 1966 coup. That is, we have tried to find out what events and what messages were privileged by the newspaper and what discursive forms it chose to report them.
