Resumen

CAVIGLIA, María Jorgelina. "Le donne a casa": aspectos de la política de género del fascismo italiano. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2004, n.33, pp. 191-216. ISSN 1668-7604.

Fascism, which emerged in the interwar period in response to the crisis that the liberal-capitalist society was going through, created an authoritarian State in Italy, stressing collective aims of national nature: economic development, social discipline and control, the return to traditional values and the recovery of imperial greatness. Its gender policy, which implied redefining the female identity according to the circles and roles attributed to it, was inserted within this context. Considering the slogan "Le donne a casa" (Women at home), which summarized what was expected from them by the regime with very deep political implications, as the focal point for the analysis, in this paper we examine the demographic policy and its objectives; the role attributed to the family and women, who were primarily regarded as mothers with a femininity devoted to serving their homes and the nation; the official position as regards their salaried jobs; the refusal to their political participation and the formation of institutions serving the Italian fascism plans.
