Resumen

DIAZ DUCKWEN, María Luján. Eva pecadora / María Virgen: imágenes femeninas en la Edad Media (España, siglos XIII a XV). Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2004, n.33, pp. 217-249. ISSN 1668-7604.

The history of women has been recently reformulated. Many historians have tried to review subjects without ideological conceptions like feminism, that were kept for many years. In this way, the analyzes of different kinds of sources are really useful catering for new ideas. This paper presents a comparison between two female models, located in Spain around 13th and 15th centuries: on the one hand we have the woman in general, the same Eva, and on the other hand an exceptional woman, the Virgin Mary, mother of Christ. Both are opposites, because while the first shows the wrong things , the second , the right qualities. This work analyzes two interesting medieval sources: the Espéculo de los legos and the Libro de los exemplos por a.b.c., included in something called Speculum, or mirror. It was read by priests and scholars. They served to enhance Catholicism. In the Middle Ages, many worlds coexisted. Both theorical models that we study here, were opposed but not excluded. In some way, when the cult of the Virgin Mary won more popularity around the 12th century, redention started for women, having the same nature as the Virgin Mary helped improve their situation.
