The following paper is part of my doctoral thesis in process. This presentation deals with the use of qualitative techniques such as the construction of life histories within institutions for children at social risk. I will try to analyze the social reality with this methodology and reflect on the development of public policies aimed at promoting child integral protection in the province of Buenos Aires. From the starting point of the construction of a life history, the role of the State and the institutions involved is questioned as well as the social categories culturally constructed through which different actors participate to achieve integral protection policies.
