The article analyzes the rise and development of eugenic ideas in Argentina, and their interest in demographic growth. During its formative years, Eugenics puts emphasis on criteria related to the qualitative reproduction of population. New concerns about health -including the study of hereditary traits, environment influence on the development or prevention of certain diseases, and the possibility of eliminating 'disgenic' elements from the population - open a fecund field of reflection, which facilitates the dialogue among different disciplines of study of the 'social thing' belonging to various ideologies. Since the decade of 1930, eugenic reflections would focus on the quantitative reproduction of population. The circumstances making this change possible, can be traced to the progressive narrowing towards the right-wing of Eugenics followers in Argentina, as well as in the rise of a 'latin' and 'catholic' vision of this science, more analogous with local ideology and sensibility.
