Abstract

RIBAS, Diana. Algunas representaciones del retrato en Bahía Blanca a fines del siglo XIX. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2007, n.35-36, pp. 235-258. ISSN 2362-2997.

The art historiography in our country has consolidate a dependent relation towards the capital. On one hand, it has been studied in an incipient way what had happened in the interior of the country and, on the other hand, it has been reduced preferently the analysis of the work and/or its insertion in the artistic field, separating this sphere of the other fields. This view, based on the auto-referencial criterion of the artistic do not allows to dismantle domination structures. This work is proposed to reflect about some of the representations implicated in the use of portrait in one provincial locality, Bahia Blanca, during its modernization process in the endings of XIX century. Our hypothesis is that resorting to portrait was one more strategy of the symbolical domination exerted by the hegemonic group, which strengthen, also, its narcissism.

Keywords : Portrait; Representation; Symbolical Domination.
