Resumen

IRURTIA, Paula. Marcas, huellas y señales en el territorio: La relación de los indígenas de la Patagonia y las entidades del paisaje en el siglo XIX. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2007, n.35-36, pp. 345-373. ISSN 2362-2997.

This essay plans to analyse the close relationship between indigenous groups from Patagonia during the XIX century and entities from the environment. The territory would have been inhabitated by many supernatural creatures with whom the Indians came daily into contact. This relationship was necesary both to carry out habitual activities (hunting, eating, drinking, smoking, travelling) and for special situations (meeting with other groups, danger, illnes). The realization of this facts would have been unthinkable without these creatures that were an active part of the environment. The meaning of landmarks and signs, that would indicate their presence and alluded to mythical characters and historical events, will be understood in the framework of certain moments in the process from the relationships between the indigenous groups and with the hispano-creole showing the fear, the uncertainty and the interest of each circumstance.

Palabras llave : Territory; Supernatural Creatures; Interethnic Relationship.
