Resumen

BIANCHI VILLELLI, Marcia. Organizar la diferencia: prácticas de consumo en Floridablanca. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2007, n.35-36, pp. 375-406. ISSN 2362-2997.

In the process of the Spanish colonization of the patagonian coast at the end of the XVIII° century, the "Colonia y Fuerte de Floridablanca" was one of the settlements established to reafirm the Spanish presence upon the region. In this paper, we approach the social structuration in Floridablanca from the perspective of social practices (sensu Bourdieu 1977, Giddens 1984), specifically consumption practices. We examine the relationship between the Crown's planning strategies and the practices of its inhabitants, with the aim of studing how consumer practices relate to the delimitation of groups in social interaction. We conceptually use the process of "social categorization" and "groups identification" as instances of social organization of difference; in doing so we build our unit of analysis: Social Categories defined by the Spanish Crown and Consumer Groups. Lastly, we approach the context of signification of material culture by contextualizing what consumption meant in Floridablanca.
