This paper is a preliminary approach towards the study of historical processes of disintegration of indigenous groups in Pampa and Northern Patagonia due to military campaigns by the late 19^th century ("destribalización") and refers especially to their material conditions of subsistence during the late decades of such century and the first half of the 20th Century ("subalternización"). A brief preliminary exploration is also made regarding the presence of the national state through its institutions, and their policies towards them, and especially, the perception that these "paisanos" could have had about these. For such a purpose, this study includes the analysis of oral testimonies, memories of voyagers, priests, ex-policemen, among other sources.
