Abstract

MIRANDA, Marisa. Lo genético y lo ambiental en la eugenesia argentina de 1930-1960. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2008, n.37, pp. 35-50. ISSN 2362-2997.

This paper explores the ambiguities of the eugenic speech maintained by the Argentines elites between 1930 and 1960, with emphasis in the different prominence that those granted to nature and nurture. Thinking about the controversy between Francis Galton and Alphonse de Candolle (1874) about the predominance of one or another one of those antithetic terms (nature / nurture) in the improvement of the race, we'll advance until to verify our hypothesis that sees in the local eugenics thinking a theoretical mixture, probability sustained in the necessity to make compatible sometimes contradictory doctrines, as liberalism and Catholicism.

Keywords : Eugenics; Argentine; Race.
