ORTIZ JIMENEZ, William. Estados paralelos o los paraestados: un dilema en el actual conflicto en Colombia. Cuad. Sur, Hist. [online]. 2008, n.37, pp. 139-170. ISSN 2362-2997.

The parallel states or paraestados, it is an approach used by several critics, analysts and investigators of the conflict in Colombia. The term is related with the crash force that the armed groups have been constituted in Colombia, specifically the guerrillas, represented by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia -FARC-, and the Army of National Liberation -ELN; the same as the paramilitary ones, both forces influenced for the drug traffic. The stamp of parallel State or paraestado, mean that they are groups that have consolidated an economic, political and social power, that they almost possess an absolute control on a great part of the territory and in it they impose their laws and norms like any State would make it. The investigation was centered, then, in clarifying both concepts and the incidence that it have in the Colombian conflict theoretically.
