Resumen

GOMEZ LENDE, Sebastián. La naturaleza como construcción social: La ingeniería genética y la cronoexpansión de la frontera agropecuaria. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.1, pp. 11-35. ISSN 1852-4265.

In this theoretical-empirical essay about nature as a social construction process, we consider that space cannot be reduced to the simple condition of nature, however, nature cannot be dissociated from it. In this way, we will try to offer an explanation about the role carried out by genetic engineering in relation to the agricultural frontier's chrono-expansion. Understanding the constitution of geographical space and how things become objects, we will explain the space and time manipulation of the nature process that in the contemporary period depends on biotechnology and genetic engineering. As an empirical example, we will analyze the diffusion among 1991 and 2004 of the genetically modified vegetable organisms (GMVO) in our country, a process intimately bound to the voracious expansion of the RR soy and the non arable sow, obtaining somber and disturbing results.
