The development of the regional agricultural and livestock sector is examined with the aim of both demonstrating the crisis structural roots affecting it from the macroeconomic changes implemented in the last decade of the XX century, and proposing alternatives for the development of a region that at the moment registers the highest poverty indexes on the national scale. On the basis of the specialized bibliography, statistics and documents consultation, the configuration of the regional productive profile is reviewed to examine the dynamics of the sector in the 90s. Finally, from the regional situation at the beginning of XXI century solutions to the identified problematics are proposed.
