Abstract

PRIETO, María Natalia  and  DEL POZO, Olga María. Dinámica del sistema de abastecimiento de agua potable en la ciudad de Coronel Suárez: Significatividad y disfuncionalidades. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.1, pp. 91-116. ISSN 1852-4265.

Benefits that proceed from potable water supply for mass population mean an important source to progress and improvement for life quality and the fulfillment of basic needs. The system dynamics is clearly connected with the degree of treatment before its delivery to public consumption. In this relation, three kinds of work that form the local service supply can be defined: collecting, ie. deep water extraction, nearly 50 meters, using pumping wells; piping works, ie. piping to the water mains central core, and distribution works ie. residence connections. Its potability is assured by a simple chlorine procedure, performed at the central water tank. Disfunctionalies that emerge eventually related with its working are linked to common quality troubles, for example, repairing supply net, and generally pressure problems, but fortunately not associated with extraction and quality. Most of all, it is essential to keep the natural resource maintenance by means of a preventive management of care heading to strong environmental awareness from local community use and consumption, making sure its preservation and viability.
