The processes of residential differentiation have played an important role in the spatial configuration of the Latin American cities, and the mere direct observation shows differences to us, but also there are others, whose evidence can be made only cartographically. The objective of the present exploratory study, is to identify the dimensions that explain the residential and social differentiation of the population of Gran Santa Fe, taking care of so much the identification of the same ones, as a its spatial distribution. Were selected 22 demographic, economic and social variables, released at radio level, of the Indec Census 2001; and a method of factorial analysis was applied. We have concludes that the santafesina situation joint party with other Latin American cities, the fact that they are the situations of poverty and high status social, the dimensions that greater explanatory capacity of the residential differentiation they have. It is extensive, in comparison with some capitals of the NOA, the zone of high incidence of the social component status elevated; and simultaneously reduced, the corresponding to the structural poverty. Anyway, we think that the spatial distribution of the components agrees with the patterns of Latin American city: population of greater status in the central areas, with a descendent guideline towards the periphery, and the population of less resources in the periphery.
