Resumen

CARBALLO, Cristina Teresa. Buenos Aires and religious beliefs: an unstable map. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2008, vol.17, n.1, pp. 29-54. ISSN 1852-4265.

This article gives us another image of the urban diversity. The territorial facts of the various religious practices from and in the secular city of Buenos Aires -and the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires- today more than ever have broken into the metropolitan scene. However, it is good to clarify that this process of diversity of religious and territorial practices is not new. This work is framed in the in the geographical vision of the territoriality of the religious practices. That is why the methodology includes the theoretical frameworks analysing the recomposition and religious practice and introduces the Geographical Information Systems that will enable us to recreate cartographically some variables that show the religious diversity in Buenos Aires. Some spatial changes are intangible and others tangible; these are expressed by the emergence of new temples, offerings in the public spaces to popular "saints", "santerias" in commercial areas, rituals or gatherings of religious massive groups that acquire a public and popular identity. These and other urban-religious facts appear in the metropolis like the tip of an iceberg. The partial results, as elaborated in the article attempt to give birth to such a complex urban spatiality of religiosity.

Palabras llave : Territory; Religious Recomposition; Diversity.
