Resumen

PADILLA, Noelia Aymara  y  BENSENY, Graciela. Transformaciones litorales asociadas al desarrollo urbano turístico. El caso de Miramar (Argentina). Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.1, pp. 93-113. ISSN 1852-4265.

Miramar is a touristic seaside resort town due to its beach, sunny weather, and intense activity during the summer. It arose from the upgrading of the coastline of an estancia in 1888. Later, it became the capital city of General Alvarado district. The general objective of this article is to identify and assess coastal changes associated with urban tourism development. Based on a qualitative methodological approach, three historical periods are considered to analyze the interference in coastal landforms and landscape changes along the waterfront. The loss of aggregates, the construction of coastal protection, the occupation of beach sectors, the projection of shadow cones, the growth of private management of public space and urban fragmentation are some of the socio-environmental problems affecting this site. It is necessary to understand the high vulnerability of the coastal front and implement responsible management of coastal resources based on tourism-environmental awareness.
