This article aims to provide a theoretical-methodological study of the union of the visual world and the material expressed in the landscape, focusing on the function that the latter has in tourism. It is assumed that practice and tourism economy introduce a kind of landscape where various qualities are valued through the tourist gaze at either conceptual or real level. At a conceptual level, we propose to approach the tourist landscape as the one visually consumed and projected towards the market as an advertising resource for the site. When a landscape view becomes a tourist icon, i.e., it is the symbol of the tourist site, its image constitutes what we call a tourist postcard. Created by public or private institutions, this postcard consists of a stage or a scene that, together with a slogan, matches the profile of the prospective consumer. This paper concludes with a methodological proposal to analyze the tourism landscape as an object-process through different examples.
