Resumen

ALVAREZ, Gabriel Horacio. Geografías sociales y políticas de la soberanía alimentaria: Disputas de territorio en torno a significados, actores, procesos y escalas geográficas anudadas. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp. 73-110. ISSN 1852-4265.

Food sovereignty was enshrined as a set of discourses and practices of rich territorial and environmental content. From the political point of view, the food system control by peoples' sovereignty was established as a priority. Therefore, a phenomenon has grown particularly throughout the last decade. It is an issue arisen by numerous civil societies from different places and territories in order to question the national state and various supranational organizations, such as FAO, in defense of the right to food for all people. This article will reveal the arguments on meaning and significance conveyed by a word that was coined at the same time it implied political practices, activities, and policies. We also believe that including this issue in our area of study will promote the expansion of the field of study of anti-capitalist social and political geography in the early 21st century, especially where the word territory implies a utopia of autonomy, social diversity, territorial power, and sustainable development outside capitalism, solidarity and mutual assistance.
