Abstract

FERNANDEZ ROMERO, Francisco. Cartografías emergentes: prácticas e investigaciones en cartografías sociales en Argentina. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp. 13-41. ISSN 1852-4265.

Social cartographies are participative methodologies that involve the production of maps outside conventional cartographic settings. This article reviews their increasing use and research that has been carried out on these methodologies in Argentina in the last two decades. We adopt a processual understanding of cartography rather than studying maps as final products. Therefore, we explore the mappings that result from these cartographic practices which always aim to solve some kind of spatial problem. Likewise, we inquire into the ways in which cartographic practices are linked to the theoretical construction of the same spatial problems they seek to resolve.

Keywords : Social Cartography; Collective Mapping; Participatory Mapping; Processual Cartography; Emergent Cartography.
