Abstract

CONTE, Ricardo Omar; MOREL, Rodrigo Javier  and  FLEITAS, Marcos Antonio. Robos y hurtos en la ciudad de Clorinda: un análisis geográfico a partir de los medios gráficos. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp. 77-104. ISSN 1852-4265.

Robberies and thefts are the most common crimes against property in Clorinda. The former is differentiated from the latter by the use of violence to perpetrate the misdeed. Newspapers, which complement police information, are a valuable source of data since they allow the analysis of different aspects of criminal offences. The objectives of this work were to analyze through press information the different modalities of robberies and thefts, to determine the neighborhoods with the highest occurrence of this kind of crimes, and to identify the so-called "hot zones" with high concentration of offences. We gathered data from digital newspapers and the website of the provincial Police between 2017 and 2019. The data were entered into a spreadsheet classifying type, description, address and time of occurrence of crimes. From the analysis of the information we obtained data referring to the characteristics of these crimes, such as modalities, type of goods stolen, spatial location of the crimes, etc. As main results we found that the central sector concentrate the highest number of robberies, thefts and attempts, being the snatch theft the most common crime in the streets that generates more violence towards the victims.
