Abstract

GORGONE, Aluminé et al. La cultura como recurso turístico: Actores y discursos en el proceso de nominación de los clubes de remo del municipio de Tigre como Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO. Rev. Univ. geogr. [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.1, pp. 133-170. ISSN 1852-4265.

In 2015, the municipal government of Tigre submitted the "City of Tigre and its rowing clubs" to the National Tentative List for applying to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Such process was based on an exchange of human values shown in the urban landscape and architecture that consolidated the city as a tourist and sports center closely related to the river environment. In this sense, the rowing clubs established between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century by European communities take a central place in the proposal. The present work constitutes an approach to a case inscribed within global processes of new uses of "culture", patrimonialization and touristification with the paradigm of tourism as the driving force for development. By means of a qualitative approach, these processes are investigated from the point of view of the actors involved in the heritage tourism arena in Tigre. As a conclusion, we outlined different scenarios where the tourist use of heritage is put in tension with identity processes corresponding to different ways of understanding and living "culture". These issues, in turn, are part of politicization not only of "culture", but also of "identity" and "community".
