Information technology (IT) is an indispensable tool for organizations to achieve competitive advantages in a rapidly changing environment. It is necessary to understand the impact of the use of IT on the performance of banks in order to justify their investments and sustain competitive advantages as strong drivers of economic development of countries. The purpose of this work is to develop a model to analyze the impact of IT investments in the operational efficiency of commercial Banks in Argentina. The operations research method was applied to the implementation of the technical data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the Malmquist index on data from the financial statements. The results obtained show that banks have improved their efficiency frontier due to technological and scale innovation, managing to be more efficient and productive.
