Quality processes in universities can account for excellence in academic performance. Sharing objectives in an environment of mutual respect and putting into practice mechanisms to achieve efficient communication can lead to more efficient sharing of knowledge and produce excellent results in the university system. In this paper, we show how the relational coordination factor accounts for excellent results in two Business Faculties. A sample of 68 students was taken to analyze the perception of improvement, and the factors that explain the degree of relational coordination in the institution and the differences between both Faculties. The results show different perceptions of quality and indicate that a profound revision of the role university departments' play today in the teaching/learning process is recommended. They must promote values of mutual respect and the sharing of goals and knowledge within a suitable organizational framework in order to achieve improvements and effectiveness in the university system.
