Abstract

This case study analyzes current accounting assessment practices at the Economics Department at the National University of La Plata. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with professors and assistant professors, and surveys with adjunct professors and teaching assistants of the 11 accounting courses. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the answers obtained by both instruments reveals that current assessment practices are consistent with the teachers' main conceptions. Most of them use summative assessment and focus their attention on the evaluation of learning. They privilege the assessment of knowledge, concepts and problem-solving abilities similar to those developed in class, with low levels of abstraction.
